Ingredients

  • fresh asparagus spears
    Use fresh asparagus for best results. Frozen asparagus will take more cook time and may become soggy. Though asparagus is a Spring vegetable, it is often available year round.
  • olive oil
    I used olive oil for this recipe, but olive oil cooking spray may also be used.

What's good to season asparagus with?

  • fresh lemon juice for serving
  • lemon zest
  • fresh herbs
  • red pepper flakes
  • garlic powder
  • fresh garlic
  • black pepper
  • Parmesan cheese
  • balsamic vinegar
  • soy sauce
  • oyster sauce
  • chili oil

Substitutions

  • Sesame oil, avocado oil, or canola oil are fine substitutes for olive oil.

Equipment

  • air fryer oven
    This recipe used a 4.5 quart air fryer. Cooking time can vary depending on the air fryer model.

Instructions

Roast asparagus in an air fryer for a tasty side dish!

Step 1: Trim asparagus.

Just trim the woody ends from the asparagus stalks.

Step 2: Add olive oil.

Step 3: Toss asparagus in oil.

Storage

Leftover asparagus can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat by air frying for 1 minute.

Top tips

  • For thin asparagus cook for 8 minutes
  • For thick asparagus cook for 10 minutes
  • Use tongs to handle hot asparagus
