Air fried hard boiled eggs are easy to make!

Air fried hard boiled eggs are perfect for meal prepping. You can eat them whenever you need a quick, low-carb, keto snack, appetizer or protein for your meal.

An air fryer can be used for boiling eggs without boiling water. The eggs "hard boil" in the hot air instead of water. For easy peeling, just plunge the eggs into an ice water bath when they are done cooking.

If you don't own an air fryer, you can still make perfect boiled eggs with a normal pot on a stove top.

Or, if you own an Instant pot, you'll love this easy Instant pot hard boiled eggs technique.

How to make boiled eggs in an air fryer

Cooking eggs in an air fryer is simple, place eggs in air fryer basket and cook at 250°F for 15 minutes for perfect eggs. No need to watch water boil!

Making hard boiled eggs in an air fryer is easy!

🥚Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • Ice cubes
  • Water

Start with cold eggs. When buying eggs check uncooked eggs for cracks before buying. If you find any raw cracked eggs after you get them home, throw them away.

🍳 Equipment you'll need

  • Air fryer (it doesn't really matter which air fryer model you use)
  • Tongs

🔪 Instructions

Cooking hard boiled eggs in an air fryer is simple, all you have to do is:

  1. Place eggs in air fryer basket.
  2. Cook at 250°F for 15 minutes.
  3. When time is up, use tongs to transfer eggs to an ice bath.
  4. Peel eggs if eating immediately or leave the shell on if storing for later.

How to peel air fryer hard boiled eggs

Here's an awesome tip to peel eggs cooked with the air fryer method. First shock cooked eggs in an ice bath.

Then tap the top and bottom of an egg to break the shell. Roll the egg on a hard surface to remove the shell.

Easy peeled hard boiled eggs.

Overcooked hard boiled eggs

Avoid overcooked eggs by dunking them in an ice water bath to stop the cooking process.

If you've ever had a smelly, sulfurous hard boiled egg with a green, chalky yolk, it's probably because it was cooked for too long. Overcooked hard boiled eggs look and smell like rotten eggs.

A perfectly cooked hard boiled egg has a solid, yellow yolk and tastes delicious.

🧂 Seasoning ideas

  • Salt and pepper
  • Bagel seasoning
  • Herb salt
  • Seaweed salt
  • Paprika
  • Chili powder
  • Japanese 7 spice blend - shichimi togarashi
  • Mayonnaise
  • Mustard
  • Hot sauce
  • Curry powder

🍽 How to serve

Hard boiled eggs are delicious plain, sprinkled with seasonings, as deviled eggs, sliced over toast, or added to soups, stews and salads.

Meal prep

You can make hard boiled eggs ahead of time for meal prep and use them in all kinds of recipes for meals and snacks throughout the week.

🥡 How to store

Hard boiled eggs keep well in the fridge, so long as you don’t crack the shells. Store them unpeeled, in an airtight container or plastic bag, in the fridge for up to one week.

Hard boiled eggs should not be consumed if they have been sitting at room temperature for over two hours.

How to freeze

You can freeze unpeeled eggs for up to 3 months.

  • Do not peel.
  • Allow eggs to cool completely.
  • Place in a single layer in a freezer-safe container or freezer bag and freeze.

💭 Top tips

Follow these cooking tips for best results:

  • Don't worry if the eggs come out with brown spots. The brown spots come off when you dunk them into the ice water bath.
  • Stop the cooking process by transferring eggs straight into cold water, so that you don’t overcook the eggs. This also helps the shells peel off easily.
  • For delicious eggs that taste great, don't overcook them.
  • Overcooked eggs have an ugly green ring around the yolk.
  • A smelly egg means that it was overcooked.
  • This recipe calls for large eggs, but you can use eggs of any size.

Frequently asked questions

Will eggs explode in air fryer?

What temperature do you set your air fryer at for hard-boiled eggs?

Start with cold eggs. Set your air fryer temperature to 250°F.

Place the egg in a glass of water. Fresh eggs sink. Bad eggs float.

Mind = blown. Is there anything the air fryer can't do? I was a bit dubious about cooking the eggs in there, but they worked out perfectly!
